Watch the read aloud of One Grain of Rice by Demi. As you watch, pause to record numbers in this worksheet (you can make your own table in your journal). Be sure to read the directions of the worksheet carefully so you know what to do. Not all numbers are given in the read aloud. You will then need to use the rule to complete the table. Hint: Look for patterns! Can you come up with an equation that will give you the number of grains of rice that Rani receives on the nth (variable) day?

For your next birthday, you might consider asking for one penny in the same manner that Rani did.

The pattern was that the amount of rice was doubled by 2 every day.
