Math

Updated 12-05-19
Our adopted math text is McGraw-Hill My Math.
On most days students will complete journal pages in class and will have a homework page assigned for independent practice. All math assignments are due at the beginning of class and must be accompanied by all student work. Periodic skills quizzes will also be given.
Facts Practice
One of the most important skills students will need for fifth grade math is automatic recall of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division facts. I strongly encourage all students to practice math facts at home for at least 5 minutes each night. Visit the Facts Master page for more resources.
Accelerated Math
Students will earn extra credit for each objective they master through the computerized Accelerated Math program. I have enrolled all fifth graders in an Accelerated Math course called “Essential Skills”. For this course, I have selected 57 objectives that closely match the Oklahoma Academic Standards for math in fifth grade. We will be spending time each week in class working on these essential skills; students will work independently on their individualized assignments while I meet with small groups for remediation. All assignments for this course are assigned and scored online. However, students may still work on these at home by following the attached directions and selecting “Essential Skills” in the group drop-down menu. Please contact me if you have any trouble accessing this resource.
Students who have an avid interest in math may enroll in the sixth grade Accelerated Math course. Completion of the sixth grade course is required to qualify for the sixth grade Pre-Algebra placement test.
